The Mother starring Jennifer Lopez is finally streaming on Netflix, and it’s the action movie everyone should be watching. Helmed by Niki Caro, comes a movie about a skilled female assassin who’s forced out of hiding when the daughter she gave up at birth many years ago is abducted by cold-blooded criminals from her past.

Jennifer Lopez plays the protagonist, The Mother, while up-and-coming actress Lucy Paez portrays the role of Zoe, The Mother’s daughter. Omari Hardwick, Joseph Fiennes, Gael García Bernal, and Paul Raci also star in the movie.

The film takes place in several settings, with the main two being Cuba and Alaska. But was the movie actually shot at these places? Here’s what we know.

Production started in October 2021 and ended in March 2022. Although The Mother is primarily set in Alaska and Cuba, the movie was not actually filmed in these places. Instead, principal photography mostly took place in Canada and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands.

Here are some of the places where scenes were shot in Vancouver via DH News:

Scenes were also shot at Sqéwqel Gas Bar a.k.a. Seabird Island Gas Bar, Fraser Valley, Smithers, and Darrell Bay in Canada. The scene where the Mother buys snacks at a gas station to give to Zoe before leaving her with Cruise was shot at the Seabird Island Gas Bar in Agassiz, British Columbia. The scene where the Mother rides off on a motorcycle with Zoe after rescuing her from Adrian and his men was filmed in Fraser Valley in British Columbia, Canada. Lastly, the Alaska scenes were filmed in Smithers, British Columbia.

The Cuba scenes were filmed on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, specifically the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
